Patrol sectors
Split San Andreas into named, colored sectors, see them on the map, and assign units to a sector.
Patrol sectors are named, colored areas drawn on the San Andreas map, service by service. Once drawn, they are used everywhere:
- the live map and the dispatch map draw them;
- the page of a call with a point shows its Sector;
- in dispatch, each unit shows the sector it is assigned to and the one it is in;
- the banner of a distress alert gives the officer’s sector.
settings-sectorsStarting from the default districts
Section titled “Starting from the default districts”In Settings › Operations, the Patrol sectors card holds an editing map and the service’s sector list. To start fast, while the service has no sector, Use the default districts lays down nine large sectors: Los Santos Central, South Los Santos, West Los Santos & Airport, Vinewood, North Los Santos, East Los Santos, Zancudo & Chumash, Sandy Shores and Paleto Bay (names translated into the organization’s language). They are aligned with the map calibration: adjust them afterwards to the way you patrol.
The card only shows with Sectors › View sectors or Sectors › Draw and edit, in a service that has the Dispatch module. Without Draw and edit, it can be read but not changed: the buttons stay visible but locked.
Drawing a sector
Section titled “Drawing a sector”- Click Draw a sector.
- Click on the map to place each vertex, following the outline.
- A vertex in the wrong place? Remove the last vertex.
- Give a Sector name and pick its Color (one is suggested).
- Click Finish: the sector is created. Cancel drops the drawing.
A sector has at least 3 vertices and 48 at most. SuperMDT refuses a sector whose edges cross, that goes off the map, or that is too small, and tells you why. Forty sectors at most per service.
Editing a sector
Section titled “Editing a sector”Pick a sector in the list or right on the map. You can then:
- rename it and change its Color;
- drag a vertex to move it;
- click the middle of an edge to add a vertex there;
- double-click a vertex to remove it.
Save keeps the changes; Discard changes goes back to the last saved version; Close leaves the sector.
settings-sector-editDelete (hold the button down) removes the sector. Nothing is lost: it moves to Settings › Archives, type Patrol sectors, where it can be restored (see Archives). Deleting a sector removes the assignment of the units that were assigned to it.
Creations, edits (vertices included) and deletions go to the audit log, with the old and new value.
Sectors on the map
Section titled “Sectors on the map”The live map (the Live map module and the dispatch map) draws the service’s sectors: a dashed outline, a background barely tinted with the sector’s color and its name in the middle. The Show sectors / Hide sectors button shows or hides them; your choice is remembered on this device.
ops-livemap-sectorsA call’s and a unit’s sector
Section titled “A call’s and a unit’s sector”- Call: the page of a call with a point (or a perimeter: its center) shows its Sector, or “Outside any sector”.
- Unit: in dispatch, each unit shows “Assigned:” followed by the sector it patrols, and “In:” followed by the sector it is in, from its position on the live map.
Everything is computed on display, from the positions the map already receives: nothing is written to the database when someone moves.
Assigning a unit to a sector
Section titled “Assigning a unit to a sector”In the unit’s management sheet (see Units and statuses), the Assigned sector list picks the unit’s patrol sector, or None. Same rights as for the callsign and the vehicle: a member of the unit with Units › Manage one’s own unit, or Units › Manage all units.
Permissions
Section titled “Permissions”| Permission | What it allows | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Sectors › View sectors | see sectors on the map, and the sector of calls and units | every rank |
| Sectors › Draw and edit | draw, rename, color and delete the service’s sectors | command |
| Units › Manage one’s own unit | assign one’s unit to a sector | members and up |
| Units › Manage all units | assign any unit to a sector | supervisors and up |
The two Sectors permissions belong to the Dispatch module. See Permissions for the full catalogue.
