A photo beats a description: a suspect’s face, the bodywork of a stolen vehicle, the evidence at a scene. SuperMDT takes photos in several places:

Where How many See
A citizen’s file (ID photo) 1 Citizens
A vehicle or weapon record 1 Vehicles and weapons
An operation (evidence, scene, damage), added as it unfolds up to 60 Operation reports
A custom Photo field 1 Forms
A custom Photo gallery field up to 12 Forms

A photo is a PNG, JPEG or WebP image of 5 MB at most. Any other file is refused before it’s uploaded, with a message that names it (“… isn’t a PNG, JPEG or WebP image.” or “… is larger than 5 MB.”). The server checks again when it receives it.

Photos belong to your organization: another organization can neither see nor reuse them.

In a form (creating or editing a record, a Photo field), three ways:

  • click Add a photo, or the empty area, and pick a file;
  • drag an image from your computer and drop it on the area (“Drop to upload”);
  • paste an image with Ctrl+V (Cmd+V on a Mac), for example a screenshot you just took. The shortcut is shown in the upload button.

A progress bar follows the upload, and the photo shows as soon as it’s done. Then:

  • Replace picks another image;
  • Remove takes the photo off the record;
  • clicking the photo enlarges it in the viewer.

From the keyboard, Add a photo is a button like any other: Tab to reach it, Enter to pick the file.

A paste goes to the photo field that has focus; otherwise to the one under the mouse; otherwise to the last one you clicked; otherwise to the first photo field of the open panel. Never to a hidden or disabled field, or one behind an open window. Pasting text into a text box stays a text paste.

Photo gallery fields take several images.

  • Add photos (or dragging and dropping, or pasting several images) uploads them all at once. The counter shows where you are (“3 of 12”); past the limit, the extra photos aren’t added and a message says so.
  • Each thumbnail has its own buttons: Move earlier and Move later change the order (the display order), Remove takes it out.
  • Clicking a thumbnail opens the viewer.

An operation’s photos work a little differently: each officer on scene adds them during the response, they keep their author and time, and show newest first. See Operation reports.

In the in-game tablet, photo fields offer Take an in-game photo if your server turned on the In-game photos option (Settings › Game). The player frames with the game camera, shoots, crops, and the photo joins the field like a normal upload. The game server needs the screencapture (or screenshot-basic) resource.

In the tablet, the computer’s file picker isn’t available: you add an image by taking it in game or by pasting it (Ctrl+V).

Clicking a photo or a thumbnail opens it full screen, on top of the page.

  • The left and right arrow keys (or the Previous photo / Next photo buttons) go from one photo to the next; on a phone, swipe the image.
  • The counter at the top shows the position (“2 / 5”).
  • Escape, the Close the viewer button or a click outside closes it; you’re back on the thumbnail you started from.

A citizen, vehicle or weapon record without a photo is never empty:

  1. it shows your organization’s default image, if you chose one;
  2. otherwise, a neutral illustration: a silhouette for a citizen, a vehicle or a weapon drawn in the interface’s grays.

The default image is chosen per record type, in Settings › Forms, under the base fields (see Forms › Default image). For example your department’s logo for vehicles, or a silhouette in your colors for citizens.

In the Preview of Settings › Forms, you can try the photo fields: the images you pick stay on your device and aren’t sent to the server.
