Vehicles and weapons

The registration file and the weapons registry: search by plate or serial number, status, owner.

  6. Who can do what

Two modules keep track of your server’s objects: Vehicles, the registration file, and Weapons, the weapons registry. They work the same way: a list with search, a record that opens in a panel over the list, a status and an owner, who is a citizen.

Like citizens, these files are shared across the whole organization.

The demo’s Vehicles module

The most recently registered vehicles come first. Each row shows a thumbnail of the photo, the plate, the model, the colour, the owner (or No owner) and the status:

Status Meaning
Clear nothing to report
Stolen reported stolen
Impounded taken to the impound lot
Seized seized

The Search vehicles field looks through the plate, model, colour and owner’s name. A plate can be found with or without its spaces: “46EJX921” finds “46 EJX 921”. The list loads 25 vehicles at a time; Show more loads the rest, and the footer tells you how many are shown.

Click a vehicle: its record opens in a Vehicle panel, over the list.

The record of vehicle 8KLM204, reported stolen

It shows the vehicle’s photo (a click enlarges it), the plate, the model and the status, then:

  • Owner: a click opens the citizen’s file;
  • Colour;
  • Additional information: the filled-in fields of the Vehicle record, which you set up in Forms;
  • BOLOs: the BOLOs targeting this vehicle, Active BOLO or Resolved (visible with the BOLOs › See BOLOs permission; see Warrants and BOLOs).

Each record has its own address: you can share it or bookmark it. Closing the panel (the cross, Escape or a click outside) takes you back to the list.

  1. Click New vehicle. If you have one, add the Photo at the top of the form (drag and drop or Add a photo).
  2. Enter the Plate: letters, digits, spaces and dashes, 2 to 12 characters. It switches to capitals on its own.
  3. Enter the Model and, if you like, the Colour.
  4. Choose the Status (Clear by default).
  5. Choose the Owner: type a name to search for a citizen, or create them on the spot with Create “…”.
  6. Fill in the Additional information, if there is any.
  7. Click Register vehicle: its record opens.

The plate is unique in your organization: if it already exists, SuperMDT tells you (“This plate is already registered.”).

In the record, Edit (Vehicles › Edit a vehicle permission) turns the panel into a form, with the same fields as for registration; Save confirms, Cancel goes back to the record. This is where you change the plate, model, colour, owner, fields and photo.

The status (stolen, found, seized, impounded…) has its own permission, Vehicles › Change status, and its own button on the record: an officer can report a vehicle stolen without being able to edit the rest of the record. In Edit, the Status field stays locked without this permission. A status change is written separately to the audit log, with the old and new status.

Delete vehicle works by holding the button down (there is no confirmation dialog). Deletion is soft: the vehicle disappears from lists, but isn’t erased.

The demo’s weapons registry

The registry works like the vehicle file. Each row shows the model, the serial number, the owner (or No owner) and the status:

Status Meaning
Registered declared, in order
Stolen reported stolen
Seized seized
Destroyed destroyed

The Search weapons field looks through the serial number, model and owner’s name. The list loads 25 weapons at a time, with Show more.

Click a weapon: its record opens in a Weapon panel. It shows the photo, the model, the status and the serial number, the Owner (a click opens their file) and the Additional information from the Weapon record (see Forms).

  1. Click New weapon, and add its Photo if you have one.
  2. Enter the Serial number (up to 40 characters; it switches to capitals) and the Model.
  3. Choose the Status (Registered by default) and the Owner.
  4. Fill in the Additional information, if there is any.
  5. Click Register weapon: its record opens.

The serial number is unique in your organization (“This serial number is already registered.”).

Edit, the status and Delete weapon work as for a vehicle: a form in the panel (Weapons › Edit a weapon), a Status picker on the record to report it stolen, seized or destroyed (Weapons › Change status), a button to hold down to delete (Weapons › Delete a weapon), soft deletion, status changes written to the audit log.

Each vehicle and each weapon can have a photo: a PNG, JPEG or WebP image of 5 MB at most. You add it, Replace it or Remove it in the form (New vehicle, Edit…), by drag and drop, with Add a photo or by pasting it (Ctrl+V, or Cmd+V on a Mac): handy for a screenshot taken in game. In the in-game tablet, if your server turned it on, Take an in-game photo photographs the vehicle or weapon directly with the game camera.

The photo shows as a thumbnail in the list, at the top of the record (a click opens it in the viewer) and on the Vehicles and Weapons tabs of the owner’s file. Without a photo, your organization’s default image shows, or a neutral illustration. Your organization can also rename or hide the Photo field, like other optional fields: see Forms › Base fields and Photos.

The Vehicles and Weapons tabs of a citizen’s file list what’s in their name. A click opens the vehicle’s or weapon’s record directly.

A vehicle or weapon can also be named in an operation, in its Vehicles involved or Weapons involved.

With the game integration, vehicles owned in game and weapons registered in game arrive on their own, with the Game badge. What the game knows is read-only in the MDT, with a lock and the note “Synced from the game”: a vehicle’s plate, model and owner, a weapon’s serial number, model and owner. The lock applies to everyone, the organization’s owner included: only the game changes them (a transfer in game changes the owner). Everything else is edited as usual: status (stolen, seized…), colour, photo, custom fields. The game never touches the status, notes or fields entered in the MDT, and whether a vehicle is garaged, out or impounded isn’t read.

Each integration is turned on separately in Settings › Game (Automatic weapon registry, Owned vehicles): see Owned vehicles and Weapon registry. A weapon record deleted in the MDT is never recreated by the game.

If the game integration is turned off, the lock stays. A record that came from the game then offers Detach from the game (press-and-hold button, on the record), with the Vehicles › Detach from the game or Weapons › Detach from the game permission (command by default; before, administrators only): it becomes fully editable, shows the “Detached from the game” badge and the game never updates it again, even if the integration is turned back on. Detaching is written to the audit log.

Permissions are set in Ranks and permissions, on the Vehicles and Weapons modules, one per action. They count in all your services where the module is enabled. An action you’re not allowed to do stays visible but locked, with a padlock and a “Restricted: …” hint (for example “Restricted: Vehicles › Change status”); see Permissions.

Permission What it allows Default
Vehicles › See vehicles open the module, search, read records, see the tab on a citizen’s file every rank
Vehicles › Register a vehicle New vehicle members and up
Vehicles › Edit a vehicle Edit: plate, model, owner, fields and photo members and up

Vehicles › Delete a vehicle Delete vehicle supervisors and up

“Default” is the first rank level that gets the permission when you create a service from a template; the levels above have it too.
